Say hello to Zed Aye!
Fun fact, Zed Aye had been in the making since 2020. I was on maternity leave with my second kid, and dreading going back to work. Not the work itself, but the lack of flexibility. I started writing copy, jotting down ideas for a future website and dreaming of a different way of working. It took five years, three kids and a move from Scotland to Australia for that dream to become a reality!
But in that time, my burning itch to have my own sense of purpose outside of motherhood and my own financial security never budged. The push-pull of working mothers is not a new concept to me, it’s a conversation I have several times a week. We’re all fighting for the same thing: getting job satisfaction but not missing bedtime. Meeting a deadline but not missing assemble. Attending that work meeting but not missing sports day.
And so, with my rose-tinted glasses on, taking the plunge to go freelance felt like the only balance. It allows me to say yes to work, but also yes to school commitments, to minimising the school holiday stress and to being present on sick days.
This fuels my desire to work for my clients. I very purposefully pitch my business to working parents who are bloody excellent at what they do. Parents who have also gone freelance for flexibility.
I want to help, and I can help. My skillset means I can support small businesses by streamlining their marketing messages and increasing their visibility, freeing up their time to do the work they excel in.
So, six months in, here we are. I’m delighted you’re here on this journey. And if you’re a working parent, I’d love to hear from you. What’s your biggest balancing act? What works for you, and what doesn’t?
