Stop the clock
The lie of hustle culture
If you’ve ever felt the pressure to be always on, you’re not alone. As a business owner today, it’s too easy to be accessible all the bloody time!
The internal pressure is fuelled by the external “hustle culture” (and let’s not get into #MumBoss 🤢) which recently reappeared in headlines. The 996 schedule (9am – 9pm, six days a week) is a 72 hour workweek, famously promoted in high-pressure tech environments in China (where it was officially declared illegal in 2021) and is showing up in start-ups across the Silicon Valley.
The supporters claim that more hours = more output, more innovation and more momentum. And yes, it can equal more money too, but at what cost?
Burnout. And burnout is not momentum.
The real danger comes when you spend your precious, limited time on tasks that aren't within your skillset. And for most small-business founders, that task is marketing.
It’s the seems-easy but what-the-actual-hell-is-this never-ending job that steals your energy, eats your weekends and pulls you away from the client work that actually makes you money and fills your cup.
You can do anything, but you can’t do everything.
As a small business owner, you are the most valuable asset your company has. You need a model that champions smart work over long work.
This is precisely why I pitch my business to the doers. You are so skilled in your job that you’re making a living by doing it yourself. No backing or security of a large organisation to bring in clients – clients choose you. You went freelance for flexibility, not for a 72-hour workweek.
I’ve made it my mission to make sure working parents don’t have to choose between career success and missing bedtime. By taking the time to streamline your marketing, increase your visibility and provide you with a practical toolkit of good-to-go content, I free up your most valuable resource: your time.
This process requires a crucial shift:
The initial investment: Yes, I need your time at the very beginning. We dive deep into a brand discovery session to nail your authentic voice and strategy. This is non-negotiable because only you know your core purpose.
The handover: Once the strategy is set and your authentic toolkit is built, I run with it.
This frees you from the panic of writing a webpage for your latest service, figuring where to showcase a recent five star review and what to post on your social media. You get to take marketing out of the equation and focus on the work where your expertise lies.
If you’re ready to build a marketing strategy that’s sustainable, authentic and champions your time, let’s talk.
